Honeymoon Shoot: Joe Bamfi

20 Jan

There I was, in the middle of my honeymoon (Mauritius), snatching a total stranger from the hotel – who’s profile matched my criteria..  Joe Bamfi didn’t stand a chance, and hadn’t a clue on what he was getting himself into – and quite frankly neither did I…

Whilst posing him, I found myself mesmerized by the intense beauty of the calm sea, and the cloud covered sky made the perfect ‘soft-box’!! Within 3 min of shooting, a wave neither of us saw coming, engulfed me (i can’t swim!!) and my camera (can’t swim either!). Ahhh, I shed many tears that day, one’s that were later wiped away with my new Canon 5D II ..   And if I may, kleenex has nothing on Canon!! 🙂

Yes, life has it’s ways of presenting small challenges – I’m interested in the big miracles – Jesus has my back!!

Innocence: Caleb

Photographing babies is always a treat ! And even though this territory comes with it’s many challenges, the rewards are far greater and supersede the multiple nappy changes; feeds and ‘pee-pee’ soaked blankets 🙂

It is truly miraculous interacting with any baby, and as a photographer you get to embrace other people’s little miracles! I simply can’t help but smile when looking at their beautiful features and their tiny bodies – posing with insurmountable innocence.

Baby Caleb – 2 weeks young – came for his very first photo shoot at the studio. After a few shots, and a little wiggling here and there – I was sold – babies are such a nice way to start people! 🙂

Innocence: Alexia

18 Jan

We can call it a clan, call it a network, call it a family: Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one – filled with peculiar hysterical charm!

Alexia’s 3rd Birthday shoot, was versed around a casual picnic at the Galoolies farm. If ever I met a genuinely happy and vivacious little girl, Alexia would be it. I could possibly sit with her for hours, chatting and playing – mesmerizingly so – gathering a few glimpses of the world through her eyes.

There is nothing more rewarding when photographing a family, than when you feel pure rays of joy being emitted (take a peak at the photos – and you’ll understand!)

After all, what greater thing is there for us mere humans, than to feel that we’re joined for life – to be with each other in silent unspeakable memories – one’s that I often unexpectedly, and yet always wholeheartedly capture.

Innocence: Baby Kylee

18 Jan

baby \’bay-bee\ n. pl. ba·bies

1. A very young child who is not yet able to walk or talk.

2. The youngest member of a family.

Natalie And Johan reminded me of a time before I was sure I had seen everything meaningful in life, and then I got a glimpse of a little miracle called Kylee. Cute as a button, small enough to hold in your arms, and yet big enough to fill your life – and it’s in moments such as these that you realise, there are so many more meaningful things yet to feel, see and experience.

An amazing family all round, always interacting with their little girl, and I even learnt about the new electric bottle warmer – gone are the “hot water in a plastic container” days (mental note: Once a new technology rolls over you, if you’re not part of the steamroller, you’re part of the road.) 🙂

I had the best time capturing these moments! Natalie and Johan, may every day you have with Kylee be unforgetable, and may she continue to fill all the places in your heart you never knew were empty!

Style Flair: Tutti-frutti Steam

18 Jan

Fruit has a new name – Jessica Leandra! A very talented model, and currently in the FHM top 10, was sweet enough to give me full carteblanche on all my fruity endeavours! From sewing slices of lemon together around her neck, to balancing several widely dispersed kiwi slices! Jessica held firm, and posed like a true ‘super model trooper’ – lacking only an exotic island boy bearing pineapple slices, and a small ukuleli!

Style Flair: Neon Upstairs

5 Nov
When I came across the picture above online, I fell in love with the intense neon blues and pinks encircling the staircase.. After 10 minutes of staring blankly at this mystifying structure, I realised the world would never be the same, until I placed my brushes to work and made it come alive 🙂 And even though, one may never find as much usefulness in a makeup look as one would a stair case – I bet this neatly packed on neon eye shadow – could potentially make many boy’s head spiral 🙂
*no pun intended

Style Flair: Cubic Glitterama

Oooooh shiny – my eyes began to sparkle the moment I held my very own jar of ‘Jewel effect’ – a definite must have .. And when the opportunity presented itself to use this ‘little number’, I found myself restraining the urge to splatter it all over my model – Sylvia Alves .. I believe (from the bottom of my teeny-tiny heart) she would have thanked me nonetheless – after all, what girl doesn’t want to be covered in sparkles? ( And not the vampire kind 🙂 )

A special thank you to my model Sylvia – you were fabulous!

Style Flair: Viridescent Azure

Have I ever mentioned how much I love working with tanned mediterranean girls? Their skin is amazing, supple and oh so heavenly .. The beautiful Chantal Alves, my model and Kimora look-alike for the day, had me giggling all morning! I loved her eyes, they were both intense and captivating, and those shades of viridescent azure simply melted into her skin… After many minutes of rigorous hair teasing, we were both equally and pleasantly surprised by the mountain of hair hiding under there – who knew? 🙂

Thanks Chantal, you were awesome!

It’s always a treat to work with model Sylvia Alves, especially when I get to pull out all the stops.. She is incredibly versatile, and loves all things unusual and different! This look had no beginning nor end, it was a case of smearing on anything my little heart desired – and girls – did I ever! 🙂

I dream of a day, when walking the streets looking this way– will be deemed perfectly acceptable!

Style Flair: Purple Pizazz

The gorgeous Lynette Rodrigues, strutted her moves like a total super star! She had the most amay-to-the-zing green eyes swirling in shades of yellow – mysteriously divine!

I had the greatest time capturing these, and the fact that I received a chocolate at the end of the shoot, made me feel all warm and mooshie inside 🙂 Hint: to all models out there that would like me to love them, bring chocolate – plenty of it! 🙂
